Say What!?! (Part 2)... for Cynthia

Okay, Cynthia, I gathered some movie quotes that you can try to figure out. I've been working on some other questions, but it's taking me longer than I thought it would. I'll post them as I finish them. Try the movie quotes first. Same as last time, the answers are at the bottom...

Oh, and a small hint... all of these quotes are from comedies.

1. "In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us."

2. "You must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest… with… A HERRING!"

3. "Since the invention of the kiss, there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind."

4. "I see you’re drinking 1%. Is that ‘cause you think you’re fat? ‘Cause you’re not. You could be drinking whole if you wanted to."

5. "Exercise makes endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't kill their husbands. They just don't."

6. "Half the people in this room are mad at me, and the other half only like me because they think I pushed somebody in front a bus, so that's not good."

7. "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

8. "There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?"

Answers:

1. Three Amigos
2. Monty Python & the Holy Grail
3. The Princess Bride
4. Napoleon Dynamite
5. Legally Blonde
6. Mean Girls
7. Spaceballs
8. Airplane!

I am officially a freak! (for Kari)

Okay, Kari... here you go. I actually meant to post this a long time ago and started working on it one night but didn't finish it. I hadn't thought of it again until I read your comment asking for it.

I created a montage of some of my favorite pictures from AccioCon. There are funny stories that go with many of the pictures, but, since I can't put captions in the montage, I will just have to explain them ahead of time. Hopefully when you see the picture, you will say, "Aha! That is the picture that goes with that particular story!" (Say it just like that... with a British accent.)

So, here's what you should know about the pictures...

The Twilight "look alike" characters are from The Hillywood Show. They have an online program, and they have spoofed many, many movies. Their Twilight spoof made them more popular, so they travel around and get paid to act like the characters... not a bad gig, if you ask me. It is these people in the picture where I am being "bitten." I walked up to get my picture taken with them, and they said, "Would you like us to bite you?" What is the appropriate response to that question? I said, "Heck yeah!" It is also these people in the picture that has Valarie holding hands with Lenora (the redhead in the gold dress). They don't remember holding hands, but when we saw the picture we realized that they were. What's up with that? Also, the very buff dude holding the video camera is the "Hilly Dad." That's what we called him. He is the girls' father, and he was very cool. We spoke with both him and his wife a lot. They were both very nice.

Let's see... in one picture, there is a very "sparkly" girl. Her name is Sarah. This one is a funny story... I might have told you this the last time I talked to you, but since that was a few weeks ago, I don't remember. Skip this paragraph if you've already heard the story. Sarah (who is also Mormon and had spent the previous week as the stake camp director at Girls' Camp and then came straight to AccioCon... VERY sleep deprived) brought spray on sparkles for us to wear to the "prom" dance they had. (Because in the book, the vampires sparkle in the sunlight.) She had already sprayed herself a lot, and then when we were walking into the building where the prom was going to be held, guess who was walking out? Kellan! (That's the actor from the movie, who is totally HOTT! As you will see in the pictures.) Anyway, he came out the door as Sarah was going in. She froze in place, and he had to kind of squeeze past her through the doorway. On his way, he said, "You ladies look very nice. I love the sparkles." (Or something to that effect.) At which point, Sarah yelled, "OH, MY GOSH! HE SAID HE LIKE THE SPARKLES!" Then she grabbed her can of sparkles and proceeded to totally douse herself in the stuff. Those of us within close proximity to her can of sparkles jumped back five feet so we wouldn't glow in the dark also. She looked like a disco ball! No exaggeration! She reflected every ounce of light in the room. It was very funny.

The girl who is dressed up as Professor Trelawney (from Harry Potter) is Jasmine. That's Drew's wife's sister. She shared a hotel room with Val and I. It was because of her that we went to the convention in the first place. She is friends with the girl who organized the whole thing.

Okay... in the pictures of Kellan...

There is one where he is looking at his butt. That was posed. I have no idea why he did that, but when he did, many girls screamed. I guess it doesn't take much, right?

There is also one where he is pointing with both fingers at his face. That was in response to Val's request, "Show us your dimples!"

There is one where he is on stage with Gil (another actor from the movie), and he is poking Gil in the neck. This was part of a funny story he told from when he was in science class in high school making homemade rootbeer in a pressure cooker. The whole thing ended up exploding, and his lab partner began spouting blood from her neck. He demonstrated how he poked his finger in the whole of her neck to try to stop the bleeding. (He did say that his lab partner recovered just find from the incident.)

There are many of him in a white button down shirt with a gray hat on... that's from the autograph session. He was very cool during that. He talked to all of us as a group and individually. There is one picture that is a close up of him kind of leaning across the table and smiling right into my camera. That is the picture that I was all poised and ready to take until he made eye contact with me. At that point, I forgot what I was doing and was stupified for a moment. Then I remembered that I was supposed to be taking his picture.

He did autographs on two days. The second day was when he was wearing the blue shirt. That was my favorite shirt he wore... mostly because that color of blue is my favorite color. Of course, the pictures that I am in with him were on the other days, so he's not wearing that shirt in those pictures. But you'll see that I got plenty of good pictures of him wearing that shirt. He also wore the dog tags with that blue shirt. Notice them. They were a gift from the Twilight Moms that went. That's what they gave him that made him choke up a little. He really liked them.

In the photos that were taken with Kellan in front of the backdrop (the very last pictures in the montage), there are two where he has his leg up. The fist shot we took was with his leg up on Val's side. He said, "Who wants to hold my leg?" Then he picked it up. We both said that we did, and we both grabbed on. Then, for the second shot, he put his leg up on my side. Apparently, I was a little too gung ho, and I picked his leg up almost all the way to my shoulder. That made him lean into Valarie, and he said, "Whoa, I'm really clenching my butt!" Val and I laugh every time we look at that picture. I really grabbed his leg and lifted it up there. I don't know what I was thinking.

The very last picture is the one I had him autograph. It's hard to read, but he wrote, "Tracy, can I bite you?"

So this turned out to be a VERY long explanation. I'm sorry you had to endure it, but you asked for it. I'll see you in a couple of weeks! I'm looking forward to meeting your boys.

Love,
Tracy

Say What?!?

At the library recently, we played Jeopardy. We have this big Jeopardy Classroom game that can be projected on the wall. It has the buzzers & keeps score and everything. It's a lot of work to plan, though, because I have to come up with all the questions, or should I say "answers" since it is Jeopardy after all. One of the categories I used was "Movie Quotes." The "answer" was a famous quote from a famous movie and the "question" was the title of the movie. For example, you choose Movie Quotes for 200. The board reads, "You're trying to seduce me, Mrs. Robinson" and you would answer, "What is The Graduate?" (That was really one of the actual questions I asked in the game.) I always have a hard time writing the questions because I can never decide how hard or easy to make them. Then I wonder if there's something I think is really easy, but most people wouldn't know the answer or vice versa -- maybe the average person would know something that I would have no clue about. So, I ran my movie quotes passed several of my fellow co-workers. I was really surprised to learn that they didn't know many of the quotes. I really thought they were too easy. I was worried that maybe I had spent WAAAAAY TOOOOO much time watching movies. So, here's a little quiz for you... See how many quotes you know from the movies. Some are questions I used in the game, others are just my favorite quotes or questions I considered for the game but discarded.

Ready?

Here we go.... (The answers are at the end of the questions.)

1. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning!"

2. "If you build it, he will come."

3. "A boy's best friend is his mother."

4. "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too."

5. "It's amazing, the clarity that comes with psychotic jealousy."

6. "Yeah, I called her up. She gave me a bunch of crap about me not listening to her, or something. I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention."

7. "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

8. "Kid, the next time I say, 'Let's go someplace like Bolivia,' let's go someplace like Bolivia."

9. "You truly love each other, and so you might have been truly happy. Not one couple in a century has that chance, no matter what the story books say. and so I think no man in a century will suffer as greatly as you will."

10. "I feel like such a heifer. I had two bowls of Special K, three pieces of turkey bacon, a handful of popcorn, five peanut butter M&M's and like three pieces of licorice."

Answers:
1. Apocalypse Now
2. Field of Dreams
3. Psycho
4. Wizard of Oz
5. My Best Friend's Wedding
6. Dumb and Dumber
7. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
8. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
9. The Princess Bride
10. Clueless

Just so you know, I think I made the quotes too easy. Even though many of my co-workers couldn't answer them, the people who played the game got every question in the category correct. There was no stumper in the bunch!

Oh, Baby!

On Friday night around 5:00, I got a phone call from my brother Drew. His wife Marquesas, whose baby was three days overdue at this point, was in the hospital and the plan was to begin inducing her. Jill, Valarie, and I conferenced for all of 2 minutes, and Val & I decided we would jump in the car and make the 5 hour drive up to Tallahassee and try to get there before the baby was born. We figured we had plenty of time since they were only just beginning the process. We were right. We arrived around 11:00 pm. Marquesas was there with Drew, her mother, & her sister Jasmine. She was in a good mood; not in too much pain. Eventually, Val & I left to go sleep at Drew's house, leaving the instructions to call us if anything exciting happened. The next morning around 8:00ish, Drew called to say that Marquesas's water broke and that things were getting more intense. Val I left to go back to the hospital. We got there just in time. Apparently, they had decided to give Marquesas some medicine to help her get some sleep since things weren't progressing so fast and she hadn't slept at all during the night. Once they did that, the baby decided it was time to emerge. Marquesas kept falling asleep between contractions, and, because she was totally doped up, she said some very HILARIOUS things. (See list of funny events below.) I'm so glad that Marquesas let us be in the room with her during the birth. It was really amazing. And my new (nameless at this point) nephew is so adorable!

This is Marquesas on Drugs:
So, as I mentioned above, Marquesas was pretty funny once they had doped her all up. She said many funny things before Val & I got there. (By the time we were there, she was more distracted by the pain.) I have made a little list here of some of my favorites.

**This one happened before I arrived, but I heard about it, and it rocks! When the nurse, who had pretty strawberry-blond colored hair pulled back in a ponytail, bent over Marquesas at one point, Marquesas began stroking her hair and said, "I want my hair to be this color." It's not the comment that's so funny as much as the picture of her stroking a stranger's head.

**During her hard labor, there was a (very) short pause in the action, and the midwife began to gather her equipment at the foot of the bed. Marquesas kind of sat up and said, "Are we done now? WHAT'S HAPPENING???"

**The pretty strawberry-blond nurse pushed the nurse's call button on the side of the bed at one point during a contraction. When the nurse at the desk outside said, "May I help you?" Marquesas and Jasmine both screamed in unison, "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!" And then you could hear some chuckling through the intercom.

**After the baby was born, they handed him to her, and she said, "He's beautiful, just beautiful!" The nurse said, "Does he have a name?" (As I mentioned before, they have not decided 100% on the name yet.) Marquesas answered the nurse's question by saying in a dreamy voice, "Beautiful." So, apparently, my nephew's name is Beautiful.

**When she began nursing the baby for the first time, and it hurt for a moment, she said "Ouch! Renesmee!" (If you've read the Twilight books, you'll get this; if you haven't, then you'll have no idea what it means.)

So, here's a picture of my nephew "Beautiful". He was born on December 27, 2008 at 9:42 am; he weighed 7 lbs and was 20" long.

Bruno!

My parents were in town last week. On Friday, Val & Jason took Evan to Sea World and left my Mom and I to care for the others. Dad came over for a couple of hours, and played with Alaina. (I apologize for the poor quality of the picture. I took it with my camera phone because it was all I had, and the lighting was bad.)

Dad carrying Alaina around in a box reminded me of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street yelling "Bruno!" when that funny guy would carry him around in his garbage can.

Hello out there!

I'm really looking forward to this week for several reasons:

1. I get 4 days off of work in a row!
I LOVE the time off, and the library will be closed Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! Hooray for extra sleep and a whole lot less stress!

2. My parents are coming to town!
Mom and Dad (who work for 20 days straight then get 10 days off) are coming to Florida during their break this month. They arrive on Friday for a fun-filled visit (hopefully with no vomiting this time).

3. I get to see Twilight!
As most of you know, I have read Twilight twice with only luke warm feelings about it. I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but I hear they get better (until the last one at least, which I've heard mixed reviews on). I am excited to see the movie though, and I'm waiting until my Mom is here to see it. My mom and sisters and I are going to see it for our girls' night out next weekend.

4. It's Thanksgiving!
I like Thanksgiving, especially since the family tradition that Val began a few years ago. Instead of having a big Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, etc., we do a big Thanksgiving breakfast with pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits, and the works. Val came up with the idea because her kids prefer the breakfast food. I gotta say, I prefer it also. I'd take a cinnamon roll over a turkey leg any day!

5. Black Friday!
I know I mentioned earlier that I will be getting extra sleep during my time off, but I do not intend to sleep in on Friday morning. I will be standing in line to get into the stores along with all the other shopping nuts. Valarie and I do this every year. After doing it many times in Ohio, I have to say that it's much nicer to do in Florida. While standing outside for hours in November in Ohio calls for coats, hats, gloves, and scarves, doing the same in Florida only requires a long-sleeved t-shirt... maybe. I don't know what stores we're going to hit this year. We always map out our game plan after we see the ads in the Thanksgiving Day newspaper. Generally, our first stores are Toys R Us, Kohl's, and Target. I imagine it will probably be the same this year.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope you all have as great a week as I am anticipating. Eat lots, and be happy!

Scary Lemur

I love the things you find on You Tube... like this scary lemur. Seriously, you may want to take a step back from your screen.
